The 11th mission conference of the Slovak Evangelistic Center called The Salty Christian took place the second weekend in May 2009. About 500 people from around the Slovak Republic attended this conference and the most of them had participated in previous conference. During the conference we asked people why they visited this conference and what they liked or did not like.
Here are their responces:
My husband and I have attended the mission conferences in the past because we always feel very comfortable there. Hearing God’s Word and meeting our friends is such a great encouragement for our lives. We were impressed the most by bishop Pietak’s lecture and by the testimony of a sister named Marta Gajdosova. (Anna Schvarcova and Samuel Schwarc)
I was impressed by the lecture of Lubomir Duracka “Salt makes us thirsty”. But other lectures were also impressive. We have to talk about a real Christianity. We need to continue in the reformation of our Lutheran Church. It might seem impossible but for God everything is possible. (Juraj Kriska)
I attended this conference to learn how to become salty. At home I want to share everything which I have learned here. (Juraj Turtak)
Every year I have attended the conferences of EVS to build my relationship with God and other people. Each lecture was impressive; each lecture had worthwhile ideas. The summary of this conference is to grow in love and then we can become be salty. Very important is to bring the Gospel to the next generation and to look for the ways in which young people can accept it. (Miroslav Trusik)
The lecture of Slavomir Slavik and Lubomir Duracka contained lot of good ideas. The most important is the love in our hearts which is given to us from Jesus Christ. Our lives without Him are empty. Everything is given to us only because of His mercy. It was His will that we could attend this conference. Thanks to all of you for this conference which was prepared very well in every way. (E.C.)
This is my third conference with EVS. I came to get some strength for my life from God’s Word and from the fellowship of many brothers and sisters. I really liked the testimony of Marta Gajdosova, but all the lectures were very impressive, as well. I am going back home with many new ideas and suggestions and I want to apply them in my life. (Jelena Zatkova)
I attended your conference last year and I really liked it. I am looking forward to hearing new lectures. I would like to practice everything in my personal life and probably I will do it step by step. We should try to live with the Lord Jesus and serve Him. I truly appreciate the life experience of our lecturers. They are very helpful for people to avoid many mistakes. (Marcel Istvan)
I attend your conferences because I am interested in fellowship of other believers. I liked the testimony of Marta Gajdasova. Its important to talk about practical lives of believers, how these lives should function.
I have come to this mission conference of EVS for the first time. I have come with a desire to have some rest and to gather some spiritual strength. In my opinion the best of all was the lecture: “Salty Christian. Salt Evokes A Thirst.“ by Ľubomír Ďuračka. He reminded us that Christians should seek to be repentant and full of humility. (Z.F)
I attended the conference because I wanted to spend time with the Lord God. I wanted to learn what it means to be a salty Christian in practice and in everyday life. The lecture “Salty Christian,“ by S. Kaczmarczyk described very well the structure of salt, and the characters of each of the elements, as well as thechanges after their combination. The lecture was so schematic as a picture and reality, as well. People do not talk enough about men’s need to belong to the church. It is important not to migrate among different churches but to engage into the church life. We need to build a congregation only on the place where our Lord has placed us. (Peter Bruncko)
I like to visit all the meetings and events of the Slovak Evangelical Church. It is important to put into practice all that I have heard. I can choose good things from each lecture of this conference. After returning home I will teach my parents some of this information. They are focused very much on their own work and claim that it is imposible to live only by praying. Despite the fact that my father is a presbyter, he has a greater need to be rooted more deeply in his faith. Many of us are used to making excuse and showing that lives of other people are worse than our life. (G.A.)
