Slovak evangelistic center was established in 1993 as an independent mission organization within the Slovak Lutheran Church of the Augsburg Confession.

Our aim is to bring the Good news to people around us.

We focus on two audience groups:

1. Unbelievers. In relevant ways present Gospel to them. So that they really have a chance to hear, understand and respond to the love of our Lord.
2. Believers. People inside the Church. To awake people and congregations to the life with Christ. To help them grow and follow Jesus.

Our service is provided through the evangelistic books, pamphlets, radio mission, TV production, prison ministry, Gypsy ministry, correspondence courses, mission conferences, trainings for lay people and pastors, counseling, etc. We also help people in Romania, Belarus and Ethiopia.

In financial matters we depend on our local and international donors.

Literature
We publish books for the gospel outreach and for the good spiritual growth of Christians. (Bible study books, everyday reading, spiritual growth, biographies, books for youth and children etc…) Many of materials are sent for free of charge to poor individuals, hospitals, prisons, orphanages, high schools, congregations, including congregations abroad.

Radio mission
For our gospel outreach through radio we use secular radio stations in Slovakia. In our radio broadcasting we mostly focus on the unbelievers. We are present with the gospel where people are. We come to their world and witness about our Savior.

When the apostle Paul wanted to be with people, he went to the Areopagus and talked to them. It was the place where people were meeting and discussing the issues of life. Mass media are to a great extent the Areopagus of today, and there is lack of voice for Christ in them. 

We try to define what are the roadblocks to faith in people’s hearts and mind´s today, and we respond to it. We are helping with misconceptions and showing the real picture of God our Savior to the people.

TV mission
For TV broadcasting we produce Christian documentaries. We are focusing on both believers and unbelievers. Different kinds of films come either from our own production, or we take over films from abroad and dub them into Slovak language. Documentaries from our own production show the Christians what happens when we allow God to work in our lives, and they show the unbelievers that He is here, He is working and not forgetting His children. All our media work (radio, TV, internet, books, booklets, courses) is connected together in one complex media strategy to strengthen effects in reaching the unbelievers.

Bible correspondence course and Correspondence counseling
From the beginning of the Evangelistic Center’s existence we have been helping people to understand the Bible and to grow in Christ through the correspondence courses. There are still many people in our church who need the basic education concerning the Bible, God’s plan with us, etc. At present we are using the BCC “Design for discipleship” by Navigators. Over one hundred students join the Bible correspondence course every year.

Roma (Gypsy) mission
In Slovakia Roma people make over 6% of the population. Most of them live in material and spiritual poverty. Roma people urgently need the Word of God. Since the beginning of the Evangelistic Center we have worked among the Roma people with these aims:- Gospel outreach- Integrating Roma people into the Body of Christ
- Training Gypsy Christians to be able to lead other Gypsies to Christ
- Printing suitable Christian books in form of bilingual books which are used by mission workers in all forms of Gypsy mission.

Prison ministry
There were also some prisoners among those who responded to our radio broadcasting. We started to help them spiritually and to correspond with them. Nowadays our stuff of co-workers visits three jails regularly and is providing spiritual help to them through correspondence counseling and personal visits. We also help their families and especially the children. We keep regular spiritual correspondence with over a hundred prisoners from 13 jails in Slovakia.

Conferences and trainings
The Evangelistic Center prepares and organizes a Mission conferences for people from all over Slovakia. The aim of the conferences is to encourage each other in Christ and to pray and work for the awakening of people in our traditional churches in Slovakia. The conference is a place of prayers, teaching and worship. Every year we invite good speakers both from Slovakia and from abroad. The conference is really a blessed time for the participants. New people attend it every year, and after the conference they are motivated and encouraged to continue work in their home congregations.

After the fall of the totalitarian communist regime I started to work at the Ministry of Culture of Slovak Republic, Department of Religious Affairs. During my 16 years of activity at the department I have had a lot of opportunities to get acquainted with the ways of work of different churches, religious groups, and mission and charity organizations. I have also observed the results of their work, as well as the feedback from the church communities and civil society.    Based on this experience I can conclude with responsibility that the Slovak Evangelistic Center for Mass media (hereinafter referred to as „the EVS“) ranks undoubtedly among the most effective and the most active organizations of the kind in Slovak Republic. With only a small number of employees the EVS has established a team which is active in ministry and spiritually powerful. The team involves pastors as well as lay people The EVS has developed a great deal of spiritual work: Bible teaching, different kinds of mission: mass-media mission, home mission, foreign mission, prison mission, and Roma (Gypsy) mission. It has published a number of evangelistic books and publications. It created and still has been providing  spiritual broadcasting in mass media. At the same time the EVS has built up partnership relations with similarly directed organizations abroad, namely in the U.S.A., Scandinavia, Finland and Germany.
